Registrants are required to satisfy the program credit requirements of the Continuing Competence Program.
Competence is defined as the combined knowledge, skills, attitudes, and judgment required to provide professional services.
The Health Professions Act requires all colleges to establish mandatory continuing competence programs.
The College's Continuing Competence Program (CCP) is outlined in the Continuing Competence Standard of Practice. Details of the program are found in the College's CCP Manual
All registrants must satisfy the program credit requirements within each assigned 3-year reporting period commencing November 1 following registration on the General register. A registrant must obtain a minimum of 45 program credits in each 3-year reporting period.
It is the responsibility of the registrant to ensure each learning activity is reported into the College’s registrant portal with the appropriate supporting documentation.
To assist dental hygienists in identifying specific learning needs and choosing appropriate learning activities, the College developed the Self Assessment Package and Tool. This resource can be accessed in the Registrant Portal.
The College establishes mandatory courses or learning activities to be completed within a specified time-period.
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is a mandatory component of the CCP.
The College may conduct practice visits or other assessments of a dental hygienist's competence as described in the CCP Manual.
